On Wednesday, March 26, 51 dedicated and driven participants completed our eight-week intensive program designed to equip in-home childcare providers with the tools and resources they need to start and succeed in their home-based businesses. This program requires an entire village of dedicated and committed organizations working in unison to support the need for childcare within our local communities.
The Orange County In-Home Licensed Childcare Program is presented as a collaborative effort between the Orange County Women’s Business Center (OC WBC), Orange County Inland Empire Small Business Development Center (OCIE SBDC), First 5 Orange County, Help Me Grow Orange County, Children’s Home Society of California, Orange County Association for the Education of Young Children, Quality Start OC, and CIELO. Together, these partners bring a wealth of resources, expertise, and guidance that help ensure each graduate is equipped for lasting success.
On Wednesday, January 29, there was a buzz of expectation at the beautiful Hunt Branch Library in Fullerton, CA. This amazing space was provided by our friends at the Fullerton Community and Economic Development Department, and it was the starting point for the journey that many of our participants were about to embark on.
Childcare services are the heart of many communities, as they provide vital support for families who rely on flexible, affordable, and nurturing childcare options close to their neighborhoods. The rising demand for childcare in Orange County means that supporting in-home childcare providers is more important than ever.
Through their commitment to succeed and their dedication to achieving their goals, those who completed the program benefited not only from structured training but also from individualized guidance, working one-on-one with an OC WBC or OCIE SBDC consultant to develop their business plans, address unique challenges, and strategize for growth. In addition, each participant was supported by peer guides—fellow childcare providers and program alumni who shared their experiences, insights, and encouragement. This peer-supported approach has been a key ingredient in helping participants build confidence, overcome challenges, and develop a strong network of support within the childcare community. Graduates who fulfilled all program requirements and are prepared to launch their home-based childcare business have been approved to receive a $500 stipend.
